Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the event," they commented.

City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for details.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism made him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
