Leeds United's a player protects the ball from the opposition's Leny Yoro in the top-flight clash at their home ground. At a Glance Calvert-Lewin sees a early header come back off the post. Aaronson fires the home side ahead with a low effort in the second period. Matheus Cunha levels only three minutes afterwards. Leeds extend their longest top-flight unbeaten run since 2001. Manchester United's poor recent struggles continued at Elland Road, but manager Ruben Amorim had Matheus Cunha to thank for his side not suffering even more damage against Leeds. Dominic Calvert-Lewin directed a first-period effort against the woodwork for the in-form hosts before Brenden Aaronson finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute effort. At that stage, the United boss was in the firing line after his side had failed to beat struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford earlier in the week. Nevertheless, against a team who had two days less to prepare, the forward levelled three minutes after the opener when he latched onto a through ball from substitute the Dutchman and slid a finish underneath rushing home goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the Brazilian's fourth goal since his high-profile summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without several key attacking players due to a mix of injury and international duty. Not that you would expect Leeds to care about that given their own tight schedule. The Swiss attacker forced a diving save out of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and visiting heads were in hands when the Slovenian striker, who is struggling to make an impact, turned Zirkzee's cut-back wide from close range. Cunha, who had a goal disallowed for offside much earlier in the match, also fired against a post in the dying moments. The draw extends Leeds' unbeaten run to seven games, their best such streak since over two decades ago, and takes them a significant margin clear of the drop zone. For the visitors though, it was yet another chance to move into the Champions League places, albeit only for a matter of hours, wasted. Manchester United Breakdown: Amorim's Side Struggle Again With the AFCON reaching its knockout phase, Amorim could be forgiven for hoping the participating nations make a swift exit. Current injuries to captain Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount only heightened the impact the unavailability of other attackers is having on the team's squad. It's not that the missing pair are the solution to all of United's problems. After all, they were part of the side that experienced poor results earlier in the campaign. But without them, Amorim has few alternatives in attack. He evidently does not trust youngster Shea Lacey or the seasoned Zirkzee, even though the Dutch forward delivered the assist for Cunha's equaliser almost immediately after his arrival as a replacement. That leaves the Brazilian, who has now scored three goals in five games, and others operating out of their preferred positions, alongside Sesko. On this evidence, the expensive frontman looks similar to previous underwhelming signings, lacking in belief and conviction in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home the cross means it is now a long run without a goal for the young striker. Leeds Analysis: Another Step Towards Safety After memorable victories in their previous home games, the arrival of their fiercest rivals to home was a bit drab affair. True, there were instances of expected fervor, but the intimidating edge was not as pronounced as in previous fixtures. The home fans were more preoccupied about their side's inability to get sustained possession in dangerous areas for any length of time. The Calvert-Lewin header that struck the post was an rare moment of quality in a tight first half. It still felt as though the hosts were finding it tough when a defensive error opened the door for the opener. For a short moment, Leeds' delirious fans thought they were about to secure a coveted win against Manchester United. However, there is a wider context for the manager and the club to deal with. When they suffered a difficult run of form earlier in the season, many thought about the manager's position. Instead, he is now masterminding significant improvement. The task is not done yet but gradually, Leeds are getting nearer to achieving their top-flight status. Looking Ahead Leeds have a top-flight trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their domestic cup campaign next weekend. The Red Devils face a league trip to Turf Moor before also entering their cup journey with a Old Trafford tie.
